Love, Lies & Dating: Will This Relationship Go Up in Smoke?

Dear Second Acts;
I have been seeing a gorgeous guy for a while. He’s a trial lawyer and a good one. He is passionate about his work and about me. There’s really just one problem, but it’s a big, fat, stinky one. He smokes cigars. Now I know there are lots of women who like cigars, or at least pretend to. I know they’re supposed to make a man look powerful and sexy and all that, but I find them unbelievably disgusting. Read More

Aris Rising: The Court of Vampires

By Devin Morgan

Can true love survive despite the passage of centuries of time? Psychologist Sarah Hagan may have to pay the ultimate price to obtain the answer. Sarah’s once safe, quiet life working as a hypnotherapist in Chicago has been completely up-ended by Aris, a vampire whose story first began during the time of Alexander the Great. Aris has taken over the human body of one of Sarah’s patients so that he can be once again close to the only woman to have ever captured his heart. Before Sarah can be sure of her love for Aris, she must overcome obstacles not only in her own modern-day world, but also in Aris’ underground world of the Catacombs, as well as in the mountains of Spain where a vampire war threatens to erupt.

“Aris Rising is a fantastic read with just the right elements of mystery, adventure, and romance. The second in a trilogy–it is hard to put down. Aris Rising is a fantastic read with just the right elements of mystery, adventure, and romance. The second in a trilogy–it is hard to put down. I am already anticipating the further adventures of Aris in the third book. America was fascinated with Fifty Shades of Grey but Devin Morgan’s book Aris Returns is far better written and totally exciting. I can’t wait until these become a blockbuster movie!!” –Richard, Amazon

An Interview With Aris

By Melanie Fairchild
On many occasions I have interviewed authors just before the release of their newest work, but this is the first time I have ever had a conversation with the main character of an historical fiction novel. I must admit as I sat in the bar of the Biltmore Hotel waiting to have a heart-to-heart with a two-thousand-year old vampire, I had my doubts about the validity of the whole situation as well as the sanity of my editor for sending me on such a wild goose chase. Mothers In Love

There’s love, and then there’s mother love — maybe the most powerful love of all. Meet the mothers at the center of each of the 14 love stories included in this TruLOVE Collection. Whether their stories were written in 1938 or within the last few years, and whether they’re about a single mom, a stepmother, or an overbearing mom who can’t let go, each one explores the struggle and challenge of love and motherhood. Several stories focus on women who became single mothers unexpectedly, either through abandonment or widowhood. Another story finds a stepmother trying to deal with her husband’s very unhappy child from a previous marriage.

“Pick this up if you want stories that are full of drama and easy to read. I got hooked and raced through the book in a few hours. A nice variety of crazy people . . . my favorite people to read about. You will put this book down feeling extremely well adjusted. It’s like a collection of little soap operas. Favorite story — Forget My Daughter-I’ll Show You Ecstasy.” — L. Gordon, Amazon

Snakes, Rats, and Little Boys–Oh My!

As the realtor handed me the keys to my new, little house, I was definitely beaming with pride. In my entire life, I’d never lived in an actual house. And the fact that I’d earned the money to buy this one made myself, made the moment even sweeter. Though I sometimes wished I had a man to share times like that with, I’d learned to savor my independence. Read the Rest of the Story Here

Life in the 60s

Hold on to your seats, the 1960s were a wild ride! We eased into the decade gently, confident that conservative values, traditional roles, and classic clothes still prevailed. We were an affluent society, enjoying the fruits of a flourishing economy. Yet our new young president,  John Kennedy, urged us to embrace self-sacrifice over selfishness, to work together to eliminate injustice and inequality. He set the tone for change, but no one was prepared for the social upheaval that would ensue. Our attitudes, behavior, mores — every assumption would be challenged. The pendulum, which began to swing — ever so slightly — in the 1950s from the right, would move hard and fast to the left, revolutionizing American life — especially for women.  And boy were we ready! John & Emily: Love at First Sight

“It was one of those things where I wasn’t really looking for a relationship and I was thinking I’m going to take my time in L.A. Then I met her and I was so nervous. I was like, ‘Oh god, I think I’m going to fall in love with her.’ As I shook her hand I went, ‘I like you.’”—John Krasinski

Any fans of The Office would naturally assume this would be a line spoken by the loveable character Jim Halpert, and not by the real life nice guy John Krasinski. But John is full of quotable lines when it comes to how he feels about his beautiful British bride, Emily Blunt. Continue reading

In Kmart’s “Show Your Joe,” a group of tuxedo-clad men – from the waist up – prepare to ring bells in a rhythmic fashion. The bells are scrapped, the table is removed, and what are left are men in their boxers, Joe Boxers, moving their balls in a rhythmic fashion to create a spirited rendition of Jingle Bells, or Jingle Balls, because this video just writes itself.
