Love Reigns for Anne & Adam

Everything surely is coming up roses for Anne Hathaway in her career, which in the last few years has earned two Oscar nominations—winning this year for Les Misérables.

Her personal life is equally hot as well ever since she married actor Adam Shulman in 2012.

No one might have expected the two of them—one a shining star and the other a relative unknown—to become a couple, but there was an immediate attraction between them.

Hathaway, who was born in Brooklyn in 1982, has been a fixture in the public eye since she was on the short-lived TV series Get Real. Not everyone saw that FOX show, but just a year later—in 2001—she became a box office star as the 19-year-old fish out of water in “The Princess Diaries.”

Hathaway has worked steadily since then, first with a series of family-friendly parts, including a sequel to Princess Diaries, and then she turned to adult roles. In 2008, she earned an Oscar nomination for Rachel Getting Married, and last year she donned the superhero garb to be Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises.

While her career was on an upward trajectory, her personal life turned sour. Her four-year relationship with Italian real estate developer Raffaello Follieri ended after he was indicted and eventually imprisoned for fraud.

Soon after, though, through mutual friends, Hathaway and Shulman were introduced. Love hit fast and hard.

“We hit if off immediately but it took us a pretty long time to get together,” the actress told the Daily Mail newspaper, adding “He thought that I had a boyfriend and I thought that he had a girlfriend, so I thought that I’d better keep my distance because I didn’t want to be that girl.”
Shulman may not be recognizable to casual movie fans. Like Hathaway, he’s a native New Yorker. He earned a degree from Brown University in 2003 and followed it with a couple of small roles. His best-known turn to date is Deputy Enos Strate in the film version of The Dukes of Hazzard.

His movie career may not be A-list, but he has made a name as a jewelry designer. His best creation may be the engagement ring he helped design, which Hathaway accepted. The pair married last year at Big Sur in a small ceremony.

“I found that the love I feel for him made me more trusting of everyone, and the more I started to see who I had become,” Hathaway told People Magazine. “He walks into a room, and I light up. I can’t help it. A few days into [filming Les Misérables], I said, ‘I’m having too much fun, I just want to play with you and I need to be really sad right now.’”

Shulman, who is known for being low-key and not a Hollywood type, escorted Hathaway to the Academy Awards for her first time being nominated—and he was there for her this time around as well.

When she won, it was clear that it was her marriage that was the real prize, as she addressed her husband with the words, “By far and away the greatest moment of my life was the one when you walked into it. I love you so much.”
